Siyabhaka Academy: shaping skilled bakers and bright futures

At the start of this year, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our Siyabhaka Academy Class of 2024 where 14 dedicated learners who completed their 12-month baking learnership and earned their Production Technology NQF Level 3 qualification. Their journey reflects the impact of the Siyabhaka Academy, which since its launch in March 2019, has equipped young talent with both the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills required to thrive in the baking industry.

With a 95% completion rate for the 2024 cohort, the programme’s success continues to speak for itself. To date, 78 learners have graduated from the Academy, empowered with real-world experience, mentorship, and career opportunities that stretch far beyond the classroom.

Now, we turn our focus to the future as we welcome the Siyabhaka Academy Class of 2025. This new group of 15 learners joined us last month and has already begun their transformative journey. Guided by technical advisors and paired with dedicated mentors, they will gain exposure to large-scale industrial baking equipment and receive continuous support throughout the learnership.

The Siyabhaka Academy is more than a skills programme—it is a platform for personal growth, employment, and community upliftment. As unemployment remains a challenge in our country, our learners are not only being prepared for careers in baking but are also being empowered to create opportunities in their own communities, including starting their own businesses.

By investing in skill development and nurturing the next generation of bakers, the Siyabhaka Academy is truly how we are growing what matters, shaping not just skilled professionals, but also brighter futures for all.
