RCL FOODS’ Siyabhaka Academy: Baking a Brighter Future

In a high-unemployment environment, the Siyabhaka Academy offers unemployed learners the potential to secure their own futures.

In July 2023, 11 learners did just that, graduating from the Academy with NQF 2 and 3 qualifications. This achievement is not just about receiving certificates. It’s about the accumulation of knowledge, skills, and experiences that will shape their destinies.

Opening Doors for the Future

The Siyabhaka Academy was created in 2019 to address a significant gap in the baking industry. The aim? Increase the number of skilled bakers and empower young, unemployed individuals with a comprehensive education in baking. Each learner is paired with a dedicated technical advisor, serving as a mentor and guide throughout their educational journey.

While education often comes at a steep cost, at RCL FOODS, we are committed to this cause. Our total investment of R760 000 for the latest programme is a testament to how passionate we are about empowering these learners and uplifting their communities.

Impact Beyond Graduation

Since its inception, the Siyabhaka Academy has transformed the lives of 64 learners. This goes beyond individual success stories. It has become a catalyst for positive change in the community; creating jobs, upskilling locals, and providing learners with valuable work experience, empowering them to open their own businesses and create jobs within their communities.

Congratulations to the 2023 graduates for taking control of their destinies in this tough economic environment. These 11 learners have not only acquired baking skills but also a sense of purpose and the potential to be change-makers in their communities.
