BBBEE CERTIFICATION
At RCL FOODS, we view Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) as a vital component of South Africa’s broader transformation journey. We support the objectives of the B-BBEE framework and remain committed to driving meaningful transformation through our business, creating value for our stakeholders and contributing to inclusive economic growth.
B-BBEE Status
RCL FOODS Limited has retained its Level 3 B-BBEE Contributor status following the conclusion of the latest B-BBEE Verification process for the financial year ended 30 June 2026.
We achieved an overall score of 90.65 points, an improvement from the 90.44 points achieved in the FY2025 verification. This sustained Level 3 status reflects our continued focus on transformation across the various elements of the B-BBEE scorecard.
Group-wide Transformation Progress
Alongside RCL FOODS Limited’s sustained Level 3 status, RCL FOODS Sugar and Milling achieved a significant improvement from Level 3 to Level 1 B-BBEE Contributor status.
The achievement reflects meaningful progress across key areas of transformation, including Black Ownership exceeding 51% in both Exercisable Voting Rights and Economic Interest, following the recognition of historical land reform initiatives. Progress was also made in strengthening the top management structure, Preferential Procurement and Enterprise Development, including increased procurement from transformed suppliers and support for small enterprises.
The achievement of Level 1 status, together with recognition as a 51% Black-Owned enterprise, represents a significant milestone in the Sugar and Milling business’s transformation journey and reinforces transformation as a Group-wide priority.
Management Control
Our Management Control performance improved, supported by stronger black female representation in Other Executive Management and increased black representation in Senior Management. This progress reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing transformation and employment equity across the organisation.
Skills Development
Skills Development performance declined compared with the previous verification period, primarily due to lower expenditure on Learning Programmes for black people with disabilities and reduced participation in learnerships, apprenticeships and internships. We remain committed to developing skills and creating meaningful opportunities for learning and development across our workforce.
Preferential Procurement
Improved Preferential Procurement performance was a key contributor to the increase in our overall score. This was driven by significant growth in procurement spend with 51% black-owned suppliers, as well as increased spend with Exempted Micro-Enterprises (EMEs).
This progress reflects our continued focus on localisation, inclusive procurement and strengthening participation in our value chain.
Supplier and Enterprise Development
RCL FOODS achieved full points for Supplier Development, supporting the growth and development of businesses within our value chain. Our continued investment in supplier and enterprise development contributes to creating sustainable opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs.
Socio-Economic Development
We continue to invest in initiatives that contribute to meaningful socio-economic impact and advance our community strategy, with the work of the DO MORE FOUNDATION remaining an important part of our contribution to early childhood development and community upliftment.
Our Commitment to Transformation
Our sustained Level 3 B-BBEE status and improved overall score demonstrate our continued commitment to transformation as an integral part of our business strategy. We will continue to focus on creating opportunities, strengthening our value chain and contributing to inclusive economic participation.
B-BBEE scorecard performance is regularly reported to the Social and Ethics Committee, reinforcing our commitment to monitoring progress and maintaining compliance.
Further details on B-BBEE are reported on an annual basis in the Sustainable Business Report and the Abridged Integrated Annual Report, which can be downloaded here.

EMPLOYMENT EQUITY POLICY
Our employees are our greatest asset. It is through their skills, commitment, and teamwork that we are able to GROW WHAT MATTERS, together. Our mission is to foster a culture of well-being and belonging within an inclusive workspace that attracts, respects, and invests in our people.
Creating an Inclusive High-Performance Culture
To fulfil our Purpose and Vision, we emphasise building an inclusive, high-performance culture, part of our “People First” pillar of our business strategy. Our focus areas are:
- Cultivating diversity and a unique and compelling culture (“Our Way”).
- Growing effective and authentic leadership
- Developing people and teams
- Fostering collaborative employee relations and engagement
- Protecting and promoting our employees’ health, safety, and wellness.
These priorities are integral to our sustainability strategy, with four key enablers: inclusion, fair compensation, investment in people, and employee and contractor wellbeing.
Celebrating Differences, Leveraging Inclusivity
We aim to promote a more equitable, prosperous, and harmonious society by valuing and supporting the inclusivity of all individuals. Our diversity and inclusivity approach has two components:
- Celebrating and actively promoting diversity (gender, ethnicity, disability, religion) through various initiatives.
- Creating an inclusive culture through open and honest dialogue, capability building, leveraging diversity to challenge the status quo; and driving engagement across all levels of the business.
Our Employment Equity Policy
RCL FOODS employment equity policy aligns with the principles of the Employment Equity Act. The objectives are:
- Equalising opportunities for all employees
- Eradicating all forms of discrimination
- Actively implementing plans for demographic representation
- Ensuring continuous engagement and consultation with the representative regional Employment Equity Committees.
RCL FOODS’ commitment in terms of its Employment Equity Policy ensures that opportunities are provided for all employees from any culture, background, gender, age, disability, and race. In 2022, RCL FOODS embarked upon a process of consultation and engagement with the employment equity committees to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive employment equity plan for 2025. The Company’s progress towards its achievement of workforce diversity objectives is measured through its Employment Equity Plan, the progress of which is measured and reported on, on a regular basis.
