Changing Livelihoods with Selati “Star Schools” Program

As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” We want to make a positive impact on local communities. Enter the Selati Sugar Incubator Program ‘Star Schools’.

Launched in 2006 and still going strong, the Incubator Program is sponsored by RCL FOODS in partnership with AgriSETA. The program’s core objective is to contribute towards effective schooling while creating an environment that enables learners to reach their full potential in the National Senior Certificate Examinations.

We recently celebrated 17 years of commitment to community growth and changing livelihoods at the 2023 annual Incubator Program Prizegiving Awards. These Prizegiving Awards give us an opportunity to review how learners have benefitted from the program – and of course celebrate their exceptional performance!

Since 2006, over 650 learners from Nkomazi have graduated from the Program. Collectively, 98.5% of these learners have been accepted into tertiary institutions. The overall performance has improved significantly too, with an average pass rate of 100%, while the National DBE pass rate is on average of 72%.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Star Schools for partnering with RCL FOODS and AgriSETA to help plant the seeds of future success within these communities. We are proud to be helping to grow the leaders of tomorrow.
