Seeing and Doing things differently through experiential learning

At RCL FOODS, we aim to do things differently when it comes to growing talent, and this is exactly what we achieved during our 2022 Management Trainee Onboarding Program, which took place in February.

Our focus was to create a fun and authentically engaging experience for our Management Trainees, while at the same time embedding key learnings and practical application of those learnings to create in-depth understanding of core concepts. We wanted to create a seamless integration into the RCL FOODS way of business, ultimately kickstarting our participants’ journey for success in their future roles.

Our Management Trainees participated in a number of relevant learning activities, where they got to know our various divisions, business units &group functions. Keeping our MORE FUN Behavior in mind, they did this through an interactive Teamopoly game (A game by Ad-Venture Inc), which allowed them to learn together in an entertaining way.

In other learning experiences, the stage came alive through Industrial Theatre which focused on core RCL FOODS topics, such as how to navigate your way of work, building your personal brand, The Do More Foundation, learning & development, HR policies, key processes, employee relations, talent management, customer marketing, and trade.

One of the most enjoyed events was a culinary team experience, where teams competed to prepare ‘The Ultimate Potjie Meal’ using RCL FOODSproducts. Here, our Management Trainees got to explore working with our products and our RCL FOODS Chef, Brad. It was a great way for our new MTs to get a taste of our products!

The last item on the agenda was a ‘Breakout Our Way’ game, similar to the ‘escape room’ concept. This engaging game helped our Management Trainees learn about our Standards of Leadership and Do More behaviours.

All in all, it was a fun and engaging experience which not only allowed our Management Trainees to learn, but to learn MORE and grow MORE while having MORE fun!
