Always ready to lend a helping hand – Lulu helps us do MORE

Born a stone’s throw away from two of RCL FOODS’ chicken processing sites in Hammarsdale to now living walking distance from the RCL FOODS national office it seems Lulu Khumalo was destined to follow her passion to do MORE and build a thriving career at RCL FOODS.

We touched base with Lulu to find out more about how her journey on the Management Trainee Programme has been over the past year…

  1. What are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about adding value to people’s lives by lending a helping hand any way possible. I believe that if you are in any way capable of helping someone, in any aspect of life, then you should, and I think that is what RCL FOODS is all about, they strive to uplift the communities in which they operate and do it for the people.

2. What did you study and what attracted you to RCL FOODS?

I studied an Honours in Information Systems. I was drawn to RCL FOODS because their single minded passion to provide ‘More Food, to More People, More Often. This resonated with me as growing up in a township means I witnessed the effects of people being unable to access food. This is a real issue in South Africa which RCL FOODS is passionate about addressing.

3. Where did you hear about the RCL FOODS Management Trainee Programme?

I searched ‘Graduate Programmes’ online and the RCL FOODS Management Trainee Programme came up on top. This program has given me the opportunity to meet new people, develop my skills and learn from others. This has provided me with the knowledge and experience I need to progress in my career.

4. What is your role at RCL FOODS?

RCL FOODS offers a wide variety of career opportunities – including some that people may not have heard of such as a Transformation Management Officer (TMO). For me, being a TMO in our business is an exciting combination of analysing, understanding, reporting, and sharing insights. Itgives me the opportunity to work cross-functionally and affords me perspective on the whole business. TMO’s mission is to transform and grow ONE RCL FOODS. The TMO team works across a range of Group Projects that include both business and digital transformation.

5.What advice would you give to someone who is about to graduate?

Time management is important because there are many deadlines that you need to meet in the working world and so there is little time for procrastination. You need to be able to keep up and be reliable to complete your contribution to work in a timely manner.

6. What inspires you most at RCL FOODS?

I am most inspired by the Do More Foundation and love being involved. The Do More Foundation is guided by its core belief that “together we can #DoMore”, the Do More Foundation brings about real change in the impoverished communities that RCL FOODS supports and I am so proud to be part of such an incredible organisation.
